Have You Ever Wonder what Grace is?

Have you ever wondered, “What is Grace?”

This is what I have learned about “Grace” throughout my journey and Christian faith.

In the simplest terms:

“Grace is God’s undeserved favor toward us.”

Grace for me is God’s love, mercy, and kindness given to us not because we have earned it, but because He chooses to give it to us.

What have I found in the Bible about grace:

Throughout my journey, I have learned very well what Ephesians 2:8–9 means by these words:

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

This verse teaches me that salvation is a gift. We cannot earn it by being good enough, or by performing endless good deeds. I know this because I felt God granted me Grace before I began my journey of giving everything up that would not glorify His kingdom here on earth.

How I’ve learned to apply “Grace” in everyday life:

There is a constant Spiritual Battle we cannot see, smell, taste, touch, or hear, but I know we can feel the pain and confusion the dark side can impart on us through these battles. I’ve also learned that by reading the Word of God, the following facts come alive:

  • God forgives our sins when we repent and trust in Jesus.
  • God loves us even when we fall short.
  • God gives us strength to live the Christian life.
  • God patiently transforms us over time into the likeness of Christ.

Furthermore, I learned how Paul experienced this personally. After asking God to remove a hardship, God answered:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Grace doesn’t always remove our struggles, but He gives us the strength to endure them.

 Grace is more than forgiveness.

Since 2022, I’ve learned that grace does not only mean forgiveness. I know it certainly includes that, but it is much more

Grace is God’s:

  • Saving grace – bringing us into a relationship with Him.
  • Sustaining grace – helping us through trials.
  • Transforming grace – changing our hearts and character.
  • Empowering grace – enabling us to serve Him faithfully.

To me, Jesus is the fullest expression of grace, and I found it in John’s writings:

“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17)

Jesus showed grace by welcoming sinners, healing the broken, forgiving those who repented, and ultimately giving His life on the cross so that we could be reconciled to God.

Here are two things to remember:

  1. Our spiritual battle is not something we can ordinarily see, hear, smell, taste, or touch. Instead, its effects may be experienced in various ways. Scripture describes spiritual attacks as involving temptation, deception, discouragement, fear, accusation, division, and confusion.
  2. Do not let the one who rules this world rob you of the assurance of your salvation. Always remember that “He who lives in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4). Jesus Christ has already overcome the world (John 16:33), and through Him there is “no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).

Never believe the enemy’s accusations. Stand firm in the truth of God’s Word and rest in the victory that Christ has already won.

But just in case, here is a simple illustration:

Imagine you have a debt of $1,000,000 that you could never repay. Someone else pays the entire debt for you—not because you deserve it, but because they love you.

That is a picture of grace. Jesus paid the debt of our sin through His death and resurrection, offering forgiveness and eternal life as a “free” gift to everyone who believes in Him.

In one sentence

Grace is God’s free and undeserved gift of love, forgiveness, and power, given through Jesus Christ to save us, sustain us, and transform us into the people He created us to be.
