A Life Redeemed by Grace
Modesto Gospel Mission
Hi, my name is Nelson, and this page introduces my testimony—a story of choices, consequences, spiritual battles, repentance, and the redeeming grace of Jesus Christ.
Choices and Consequences
I have lived a life marked by both blessings and consequences. I have experienced moments of great joy and moments of deep pain. At times, the consequences of my past choices still weigh heavily on me.
In 2005, my life began to take a direction I could not understand at the time. What I eventually discovered about my life, my choices, and their consequences would prove painful and challenging.
When I speak about those years, I know my choices affected more than just me. I often think about the people I was supposed to love, protect, and care for—people I let down plus those who let me down along the way.
That is why the word “choices” carries so much weight for me.
I made good choices, and I made wrong choices. I cannot change the past or erase the consequences of what I did. What I can do is take responsibility for my actions. I can acknowledge where I was wrong, repent, and allow God to transform what I had broken.
A Season of Loss and Spiritual Battle
From 2009 to 2019, I walked through a season when it felt as though I was losing everything. Yet even in that loss, God was revealing things I could not see before.
Looking back now, I recognize a series of events that I can only describe as a spiritual battle. That battle affected my life, my relationships, my identity, and my faith.
During those years, I cried out for help and searched for answers in many places. At times, I felt rejected, accused, abandoned, and left for dead.
Still, God was not finished with me.
What Pain Taught Me
The grief and pain taught me how to repent.
Forgiveness became part of my journey, even when it did not come easily. Taking responsibility for my actions taught me the difference between accountability and allowing shame to define who I was.
Most importantly, I began to understand His way and His grace.
God’s grace does not pretend our choices never happened. Instead, His grace meets us in the middle of our consequences and gives us a way forward.
Grace did not erase my past. It changed what my past would mean.
The Promise That Sustained Me
There was a promise in Scripture that became especially meaningful during those years. Today, I can share a promise that existed long before I was born. It came from a God who already knew every choice I would make, every failure I would experience, and every loss I would endure.
That promise is found in Isaiah 41:10:
“Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
— Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)
Those words became real to me because I lived through seasons when I desperately needed them.
God knew.
He knew the choices I would make. He knew the consequences I would face. He knew the people I would hurt and the people who would hurt me.
He knew the battles I would face, the moments when I would feel completely alone, and the places where I would eventually discover His grace.
And through it all, He never let go.
My Life Redeemed
My story is not about a perfect life.
It is about a life redeemed by grace.
It is about what God can do with a person who has made mistakes, experienced loss, walked through pain, and finally surrendered everything to Him.
I cannot change where I have been.
I cannot undo the choices I made or erase the consequences of my past.
But by His grace, I do not have to remain there.
My past is part of my story, but it is not the end of my story.
My life has been redeemed by grace.
This introduction is only the beginning of my testimony. As I continue sharing my story, I invite you to explore the biblical truths God used to change the direction of my life.
Continue the Journey
Through my mistakes, struggles, repentance, and faith, I began to see how God’s Word speaks directly to the choices we make, the battles we face, and the direction of our lives.
